A Day in the Life of a Museum and Artefact Researches MA Trainee



I began my postgraduate research study at Durham, checking out for a MA in Museum and Artefact Research Studies in the Department of Archaeology last October and have actually liked every minute of it. This is how I would invest a normal Monday throughout the year.

A normal Monday.

Mondays began intense and early with 9: 00 am lectures on Artefact Research studies in the downstairs laboratory. My lecture in the afternoon was for Care of Collections. It taught me how products respond to temperature level, humidity and light, how to de-humidify a space, why there are constantly silverfishes in your restroom (they flourish in moist conditions), however most significantly how to avoid museum collections from damage and decay.

After the lecture I would stroll back to the old Ustinov College website at Howland’s farm, just 15 minutes away.
