Date: 19-23 November 2018 @ KNUST Kumasi Service Incubator, Kumasi.

Background.

TWIGA is a 4-year job (2019– 2023) under EU Horizon2020 meant to alter climate condition water info into value-added details services. It is consisted of a consortium of 18 partners– 8 from Africa and 10 from Europe.
At the minute the product and services being considered a few which have in fact been assessed by TWIGA partners stay in the Farming, Water, Energy, Disaster Response and Management and Insurance protection sectors. For these product and services to be efficient on the Africa market, regularly they need to be bundled and may require public-private cooperations (Bellagio-African-PPP-for-Climate-services 2017).
For Farming, the following products are being considered: farming understanding and details systems, crop tracking (health and yield), site assessment for crops, crop option and calendar, climate condition forecasting, fertilizer suggestions, Bug and health problem management, sowing and planting motivate, water use and watering suggestions, soil dampness examination and modeling, soil nutrients examination, salinity examination, flood danger examination, flood early care system, drought danger examination, drought tracking, Serious climate condition danger examination, Serious climate condition early care, disaster tracking and impact examination, farming (index) insurance protection, market gain access to examination and market details, environment adjustment modeling and tracking, pasture and water bodies acknowledgment and tracking, forest and bushfire care and tracking, farming control and compliance tracking (Noort, 2018).
Objectives of the Hackathon.
To promote involvement by young scientists and company owner, TWIGA will set up 5 hackathons; 3 on improvement of geo-services at Strathmore (Kenya), TU Delft (Netherlands) and SAWS (South Africa), and 2 on noticing system improvement at KNUST (Ghana) and TU Delft (Netherlands).
Due to that the hackathon will be partly moneyed by TWIGA, there has to be an useful outlook to a service. Because of that the objective of the hackathon in Kumasi will be to develop an useful product (environmental noticing system and/or service) in 5 days in line with the TWIGA product and services detailed above.
Prizes.

5 Groups of not more than 3 people per group will be invited if they satisfy all the set requirements. There are benefits of EUR1500, EUR1000, and EUR500 for main, 2 and 3. These 3 finalists will be supported to take their principles from idea to finish design all set to be assessed on the market within 2 years.
The copyright rights of the winning designs developed throughout the course of the 5 days Hackathon will be shared in between the designers and the TWIGA job.

Requirements and Application Treatment.

The call is open to simply groups from Ghana. Equivalent hackathons will be organized in other parts of Africa later.
The groups may be formed by personal individuals, students, start-ups, service, NGOs or federal government business.
Groups should have proficiency in software application and hardware improvement. All groups need to be physically present throughout the 5-day Hackathon in Kumasi.

All interested groups should send their application (2– page concept note, and the resume or CV of all proposed employee) on the environmental noticing system( s) and/or IoT for environment service they indicate to develop to info@twiga-h2020 eu with the words [TWIGA Hackathon in Kumasi] in the subject line of the email. The application has to be sent out by 23.00 hrs CET on 30 September2018
